Marcal Paper is searching for an experienced Sr. HR Generalist to join our team in Putney, VT!

This professional level role is responsible for all people needs of a growing paper 

manufacturing mill with two Putney Vermont locations and its professional staff. Total

population of 125 employees and growing. This is a continuous operation and is a true

Generalist role. It touches all areas of Human Resources, is a learning experience in all

areas of HR and is located in scenic and friendly southern Vermont. It has the support

of HR professionals from other sites, interacts with other HR team members on projects

and recruiting and has internal employment and labor law support for all compliance

matters. The incumbent interacts with the General Manager and all members of the

senior team daily.

The incumbent functions as HR Leader, which includes responsibility for the following:

employee relations, employee engagement, recruitment and talent, benefits

management, compensation, payroll, performance management, onboarding, policy

implementation, and employment law compliance. The ability to present and facilitate is

desirable, but not necessary.

This position requires an extremely perceptive person capable of relating to individuals

at all levels and has a personable style able to interact with all levels of employees. The

Senior Generalist must be sensitive to employee goodwill and the business needs and

be willing to spend time in the plants establishing and maintaining strong employee

relationships.

Responsibilities:

 Understands and ensures adherence to all company policies, practices and

procedures. Assist with the drafting and update of policies and the Employee

Handbook.

 Significant recruiting and onboarding hourly roles with some salaried position

hiring.

 Administers the compensation program; provides input into the payroll each

week, monitors the performance evaluation program and revises as necessary.

 Performs benefits administration, including claims resolution, disability tracking,

change reporting, approving invoices for payment and communicating benefits

information to employees.

 Handles employee relations matters, lower level investigations, counseling, and

exit interviewing.

 Responsible for employee engagement, the employee survey, employee

activities, recognition programs that help build a cohesive team.

 Manages and tracks all employee disciplinary action.

 Maintains company organization charts and the employee directory.

 Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from

the database.

 With the assistance of Counsel, maintains compliance with federal, state and

local employment and benefits laws and regulations.

 Maintains employee personnel files.

 Reports, maintains and monitors all workers' compensation case files; follows-up

on open cases.

 Helps facilitate training to the workforce, if needed.

 Interacts significantly with employees on the plant floor and works with all levels.

Education and Experience

 Bachelor’s degree in HR or a related field with three + years of experience as an

HR Generalist

 Strong communication skills both written and verbal

 Strong desire to learn and increase his/her HR skills and abilities

 Excellent style and ability to relate well with all levels of employees

 HR professional certifications desirable

 Proficiency in MS Office especially Excel, Word and Power Point
